I wrote an earlier post that dealt with filing a FAFSA financial aid report. I also wanted to address other ways to find money for school or to finance your education. Check with your employer. Many times employers offer tuition reimbursement for educational expenses. This amount varies by employer and they may only give you money for a degree related to your current field. They want to make sure they won’t be paying for an education that they won’t get to reap the benefits of. For example, if you work at a hospital they may only cover the expenses if you are seeking a degree in a medical related field, such as nursing or a radiology technician for example.

Scholarships and grants are another great way to get money for school. You don’t necessarily have to have a great ACT/SAT score or great grades to get scholarships. Some scholarships are based on financial need and other factors rather than grades. You may have to maintain a certain grade point average once in school to keep the scholarship, however. There are tons of scholarships and grants available for a variety of things. For example, if you are going into teaching there are many financial assistance opportunities out there. If you are male, a minority, and interested in teaching math, science, or special education, you may be able to get your entire education paid for.

One of the biggest hurdles people face in starting or advancing their education is finding the money to pay for it. There is a lot of money out there if you know where to look. Depending on your financial status y0u may find ways to get your education expenses entirely covered.

When you decide what you want to do and have narrowed your school options down then you can apply for financial aid. This is the first step everyone should take once they have decided to attend school. You will need your most current tax return, if you live with your parents and were claimed as a dependent on their tax return then you will need their return for the application process. Then go to the FAFSA website, you can either print out an application or apply online. If you choose the online option you will need to apply for a pin number first, this is for electronic signature purposes. It may sound slightly confusing but the website is really easy to navigate and offers a plethora of information regarding student aid. Applying for financial aid does not obligate you to anything. If you are approved for financial aid or a federal student loan you will have to sign papers agreeing with the conditions before you are given the money. You must also specify the schools that you would be attending. You can name more than one school, which comes in handy if you want to see where you can get the most financial aid. Once you receive your FASFA report you do not need to do anything if you choose not to attend school or find other means of paying for your education.

Even if you think you will manage okay financially you may be entitled to some financial aid or grants based on your ethnicity or chosen path in school. It would be a shame to let the money go to waste.
